The Yin Yoga Channel is a YouTube site dedicated to explaining the main postures of Yin Yoga. It is brand new – check it out. You will find video descriptions of a dozen or so asanas, meditation, shavasana and there are also videos of the poses performed, so that you can do the postures along with the video. You may want to watch the asanas explained video before viewing and doing the asana performed video. We have linked the asana performed videos into playlists so that you can do a full class via YouTube. Just select the theme you like and the time you have available, click and … viola! … a full Yin Yoga class on YouTube.
Of course, this is not meant to replace a real Yin Yoga class with a live teacher or the high quality Yin Yoga videos that you can find on MyYogaOnline or Pranamaya, but the Yin Yoga Channel is a cool way to get some yin in when these other avenues are not available, or when you just want a small shot of yin.
YinYoga.com is Changing!
We have just launched the channel: expect it to grow over time with more playlists and video postures. Maybe you will want to arrange the postures into your own video playlist. If it is a good flow, feel free to share it! There is a section in the Forum just for sharing good flows. For now, if you prefer, you can go directly to a particular asana via the YinYoga.com web site. We have added the video descriptions to the asanas section and enhanced the text descriptions as well (adding such things as “How to Get Into the Pose”.)
Here is a list of the asanas that already have video explanations and performances.
In one side of a Petri dish is a single amoeba, and in the other is a dab of toxic sludge. The amoeba, sensing the danger, moves away from the toxins. In an act of self-defence it contracts into itself, becoming smaller and more protected. This is a natural reaction when fear is present: to withdraw, close in and shrink. A natural reaction, but one that comes with a cost: in this tight, protected state the amoeba cannot ingest food, grow or reproduce: it is totally focused on survival. Even this tiniest of creatures arranges its priorities: survival before growth. Fear is the key: the perception of danger causes the amoeba to feel fear and thus contract.
If you are having trouble finding a Yin Yoga teacher near your, or if you are traveling to somewhere new, try checking out the Directory of Yin Yoga teachers. We have hundreds of teachers registered from all over the world. If you are a teacher and are not in the directory, just send us your information and we’ll be happy to add you.
The forum is available for anyone to ask questions about Yin Yoga in particular or Yoga in general, but the forum is not just for those who “don’t know” – it is also available for everyone who already know, and have stories and information to share with others. Recently the forum has been changed to make it easier to find the most common topics. Check it out and feel free to add your voice.
Yin is In! And, it is growing in popularity. Yin Yoga has been with us since the beginning of Hatha Yoga centuries ago. But since the early 19th century, yoga has become more and more yang-like in nature. Everything requires balance: yin completes yang. Yin Yoga is the balancing practice for the more active, muscular yang yogas. There are more and more teachers offering Yin Yoga today, and more workshops and opportunities to learn how to become a Yin Yoga teacher. If diving deeper into the yin-side of life is on your bucket list, there are lots of opportunities for you.

Fractals of Fear
As above, so below. As below, so above. By observing the pattern of nature we can understand how certain reactions are repeated at various scales of existence, even patterns that are not the most skillful.
