What Can Your Body Really Do?
5 Ways to Rethink Your Yoga
by Sophie Legrand
The line between real and fake has become so blurry these days that our critical self almost wants to stop caring. Truthfulness is a currency whose value has plummeted over this decade. In the era of compulsive selfies, celebrating our individuality has entered an unnatural and distorted dimension. Luckily our yoga practice comes again and again to correct our warped perception of ourselves and others. It appeals to our saner side and intends to bring us back into a more authentic realm.
Sebastian and Murielle have created a new version of their website and it has some wonderful features. Check out their library of Yin Yoga postures. If you sign up for their newsletter, you can get a free copy of their Postures Poster!
Back in November of 2016, Bernie Clark offered for the first, last and only time, a workshop on how to teach the Dragon Dance. The handout for that workshop is now freely available. Feel free to share it with your students and teachers. If you have never danced with the dragon, you may want to view the video on Gaia Yoga first.
A Plethora of Yin Yoga Videos Gaia Yoga (formerly MyYogaOnline) has over 40 different Yin Yoga videos ranging in time from short 20 minute classes to over an hour. They have almost 20 Yin Yoga classes by Bernie Clark, but also videos from many other teachers such as Doug Swenson, Cameron Gilley, and Dina Amsterdam. If you have never watched a Gaia Yoga video, the first month is really reasonable ($.99) so check them out!
Yin is In! Yin Yoga has been with us since the beginning of Hatha Yoga centuries ago. But since the early 19th century, yoga has become more and more yang-like in nature. Everything requires balance: yin completes yang. Yin Yoga is the balancing practice for the more active, muscular yang yogas. There are more and more teachers offering Yin Yoga today, and more workshops and opportunities to learn how to become a Yin Yoga teacher. If diving deeper into the yin-side of life is on your bucket list, there are lots of opportunities for you.
