Yoga involves sensations; lots of physical sensations—we seek them out deliberately, we marinate in the juiciness of the postures, we play the edges of our poses where sensations ebb and flow, swell and retreat. But, what happens if the sensations become sensational? Is that a good thing? When do I back off? When do I go deeper? Is pain a reliable signal; is it always bad; and what is pain anyway? Is it discomfort or something more?
YinSights was originally published as an electronic, web-book that allowed anyone with an Internet browser to discover the philosophy, physiology and practice of Yin Yoga. This original version is still available, however many readers found that trying to read and digest over 300 pages of information from a web site was difficult. They asked for a printed version of YinSights and their requests were answered in 2007 with the printing of a hardcopy version of the online material. With the creation of The Complete Guide to Yin Yoga in 2012, the earlier hardcopy version of YinSights went out of print. But, now it is back! We have reprinted a limited number of copies of YinSights and made them available through Amazon.com. If you want the original version of Bernie’s Yin Yoga book, its is now available.
Yin is In! Yin Yoga has been with us since the beginning of Hatha Yoga centuries ago. But since the early 19th century, yoga has become more and more yang-like in nature. Everything requires balance: yin completes yang. Yin Yoga is the balancing practice for the more active, muscular yang yogas. There are more and more teachers offering Yin Yoga today, and more workshops and opportunities to learn how to become a Yin Yoga teacher. If diving deeper into the yin-side of life is on your bucket list, there are lots of opportunities for you.
