Paul Grilley’s original book, the book that re-started a whole new form of yoga practice has been expanded and re-issued in celebration of 10 years of being in print. Even if you already have a copy of his original green book, you may find the new version even better. It has extra sections on anatomy, energy, yin & yang philosophy and much more. But it is still the great, concise book it has always been.
Imagine there is a room in your house that you have forgotten all about. And imagine in this room there is a closet in which you once, long ago, placed a golden treasure. Today you feel poor, unsatisfied, wishing you had more, not remembering that you are actually quite rich because of your forgotten treasure. That golden treasure is your silence. This story is about finding your silence again.
“What a pain in the butt! No, a real pain – sometimes it shoots down the back of the leg and sometimes it is a dull ache. Is this sciatica?”
In yoga classes a student will often come to a teacher before class and state that she is suffering from sciatica. Too often the teacher may think that it must be due to “piriformis syndrome” and suggest some postures that could actually make the condition worse. To properly treat sciatica, first we must know what is causing it. Let’s investigate this systematically: first let’s look at what sciatica is, then what causes it, and finally what we should do about it.
The forum is available for anyone to ask questions about Yin Yoga in particular or Yoga in general, but the forum is not just for those who “don’t know” – it is also available for everyone who already know, and have stories and information to share with others. Recently the forum has been changed to make it easier to find the most common topics. Check it out and feel free to add your voice.
Yin is In! And, it is growing in popularity. Yin Yoga has been with us since the beginning of Hatha Yoga centuries ago. But since the early 19th century, yoga has become more and more yang-like in nature. Everything requires balance: yin completes yang. Yin Yoga is the balancing practice for the more active, muscular yang yogas. There are more and more teachers offering Yin Yoga today, and more workshops and opportunities to learn how to become a Yin Yoga teacher. If diving deeper into the yin-side of life is on your bucket list, there are lots of opportunities for you.
