The Yinside of New Year’s Resolutions

When we examine our resolutions we find that they are based on the unspoken assumption that the way we are right now is not good enough. There is a “should” lurking in our self-evaluation: we should be better, or different than we are right now. Where is that assumption coming from? Why are you not content with the way you are right now, with the way your life is right now? Whose voice is whispering in your ear that you should be different?

Making Your Own Sandbags And other prop ideas from Diana Batts

Recently, a student reached out to ask how to buy and fill sandbags. She loved the way they helped her yin practice. Diana Batts answered her: “When I am filling sandbags I buy a sack of play sand from a hardware store like Home Depot. The sort of sand they sell for a child’s sandbox so it is free of salt. I use a kitchen scale and my sandbags are 10lbs each; it’s easy to get that weight with sand rather than other options like beans. I also save absorbent sachets from pill bottles or packaging or whenever I come across them and add a few of those to each sandbag. I get my sandbags from Halfmoon Yoga and they sell them empty as, as you discovered, shipping them full is a lot! It is a bit of an effort but well worth it!”

For more ideas of the use and sources of props, as well as a video of Diana demonstrating many different props, visit this page.

Our weekly online classes are expanding!

Your $5/week subscription (or less, depending on your commitment) now includes both yin and yang yoga each week. Along with two live yin classes on Sundays and Fridays with Bernie Clark and Diana Batts, you now also have access to two live 60-minute hatha yoga classes on Mondays and Thursdays with Nathalie Keiller.

Together, these classes offer a more complete and balanced weekly practice. As always, if you can’t attend live, all classes are available as replays, along with full access to the growing class archive. (You will find Nathalie’s classes in the Online Yin Yoga product.)

Twice the yoga, the same low price.

If you know someone who might benefit from a steady, thoughtful online yoga practice — for less than the price of a cup of coffee each week — please feel free to pass this along.

Functional Anatomy for Yoga Teachers

The digital version of Functional Anatomy will be available on November 17! It is the recorded version of the live 40-hour course given in July of 2025. This On Demand 30-hour training goes beyond the basic information about anatomy and physiology offered in most Yoga Teacher Trainings. The focus is on how the body moves and, more importantly, what limits movement, when these limits can be extended and when they should be accepted. What is uniquely fun about this course is that you will be exploring your own body’s ranges of motion.

To learn more and to order the course visit either Asana at Home or Yogaversity.

On Demand Yin Yoga Teacher Training

This comprehensive on demand, online training will immerse you in the techniques, theory, and teaching of Yin Yoga. Guided by Bernie Clark and Diana Batts, you’ll explore the foundations of the practice from physiological, energetic, and psychological perspectives. Through a blend of lectures, demonstrations, and guided practice, you’ll learn how to safely experience Yin Yoga yourself—and how to confidently share it with others. Whether you’re a yoga teacher, therapist, or dedicated practitioner, this course will deepen your understanding and expand your skillset.
