For Yoga and Other Movement Modalities

A 40-hour in-person training with Bernie Clark

July 3 – 7, 2023 in Vancouver, Canada

The following are questions that frequently asked about the 40-hour In-person Functional Anatomy course happening from July 3 – 7, 2023. If you do not find your question addressed here, feel free to contact us via the Facebook group or directly by email.

Is this training only for yoga teachers or students?

This training is for anyone involved in movement, whether in a yoga practice, sports, therapy or any other movement modality. Our body has certain natural limitations to movement. Some of these can be modified through functional training but some movements are inhibited due to structural limits that cannot be modified. Knowing the difference is important to everyone from teachers and therapists to clients and students.

Where is the training being held?

Our host for the course is the YYoga Downtown studios at 888 Burrard Street, Vancouver, B.C. Visit here for directions. We will be in the Wind Room.

Is there parking nearby?

YYoga Downtown does not have its own parking. Parking may be challenging if you are not staying close by. There are underground parking lots nearby and we would suggest the one in the same block on Burrard Street as YYoga. There is another one kitty-corner in Vancouver Tower at 909 Burrard Street. Do not use the meter parking on the street as there is a limit of 3 hours, and no parking before 9:30 am or after 3 pm.  Refer to the document Things to know about visiting Vancouver to view a map of nearby parking options.

What accommodation options are there?

It is your responsibility to arrange your own accommodations. Since our hosts, YYoga Downtown, are located in the downtown area, finding accommodations within walking distance will make your stay easier. This document has a list of hotels and hostels you can check out.

What else should I know about visiting Vancouver?

This document has a list of things to know about visiting Vancouver. If you are coming from outside Canada, please be aware of the visa requirements and plan ahead. Do not leave it to the day of your travel to check out which documents you need to enter Canada.

What are the hours of the training?

The course will begin on Monday, July 3 at 9am. Please arrange to arrive at least 15 minutes early to check in and settle in.  There will be a one-hour lunch break each day at 12:00 with the course resuming at 1:00 pm. The day will end at 5:00 pm. This will be the schedule for each day.

Are there places to eat nearby?

There are lots of dining options in downtown Vancouver. This document shows some of the nearby places you may wish to try out during your stay in Vancouver as well as several nice options for dinner further away.

Do we need to bring any props or books for the course?

This training does not include yoga classes, although there will be opportunities to check out some of movements and postures that illustrate various points during the course. YYoga Downtown does have yoga blocks and cushions, but it is recommended that you bring your own yoga mat.

The only text for the course is Your Body, Your Yoga trilogy, which includes

You will need to get a copy of these three books before the course begins as your evening reading assignments will be from these texts. They are available through Amazon but we will also have a few copies for sale at the training.

Can we leave our things at the studio overnight?

No. Unfortunately, the room we will be in will be used for yoga classes for a couple of evenings, so we must take everything with us at the end of the day.

Will there be a test at the end?

Yes! Tests are fun! But, don’t worry, the test will be open book so you can use your resources in finding the answers. Plus, the test will be emailed to you at the end of the course and you have one week to complete it and return it. Once you have passed the test, your certification will be emailed to you.

How can I change the name on my certificate?

Your certificate  will show the name that you registered with when you signed up for the course. If you desire a name different on your certificate, let us know as soon as you register.

What happens if I have to cancel?

Your payment will be refunded in full (less a $50 Cdn processing fee) if canceled before May 3, 2023. If you cancel after May 3, 2023, we will refund your payment, less processing fee, only if another student takes up your spot. The longer you wait to cancel, the less likely it will be that another student can arrange his life, travel, hotels, etc to attend. So, if you do have to cancel, do it earlier than later.

What is the Covid-19 policy?

COVID-19 is being effectively monitored, controlled and treated in British Columbia and Canada. The Public Health Agency of Canada is actively monitoring the situation and working with the World Health Organization and other international partners. As such, the risk of transmission in Metro Vancouver is low.

We encourage everyone to monitor themselves for symptoms of Covid-19 or any other illnesses before your arrive. If you are experiencing symptoms of Covid-19, we ask you to take a home test before coming to the studio. Home tests are available for free from almost all drug stores in Vancouver.

If a student tests positive for Covid-19 during their retreat they must leave the training. If you do have to leave the training due to a positive Covid-19 test, we will try our best to let you access the live training via a Zoom link. We are not set up for this, however, and any provision of such a service will be done as best we can.
