Yinspiration!

Dear Bernie, I discovered your website three weeks ago. I signed up for a yoga class, started researching yin yoga (one of the yoga styles offered at the studio, and one that I wasn't familiar with) and found your extremely valuable website. Bought a couple of yoga books, including yours. Watched yo...

Which way to twist is the "right" way?

Remember your intention! Why did you ask them to twist? What sensations were you trying to create for them? Knowing that, check to see if twisting one way works better or worse than the other way. For some people it does make a difference. For other people it does not. I would agree with your idea o...

Sciatica & Deer pose

I recently received the following questions: HI Bernie. My question is about deer pose and sciatica. I found out that this pose helps me in relieving sciatica pain by stretching my piriformis. However I need to do the pose by bending forward like a sleeping deer (twisting on the side or directly ove...

Achilles Tendon Lengthening

How old is the child? How long was he immobilized after surgery (how long was he in a cast and what type of cast?) What does his physiotherapist recommend? Every surgery is unique and the surgeon is the one who really knows what was done: what is his recommendation for the recovery process? When the...

Working with arthritis

As always, your mom should check with a doctor, but I do believe the upper body pawanmuktasanas would be really helpful for her. You can tell her to go to the web site and read those pages ... here is the link. http://www.yinyoga.com/ys2_2.2.7.1.4.2_upperbody_pawanmuktasana.php Moving the fingers in...

Bones as we age

Hi Lydia ... interesting topic, especially as the boomers reach the critical age you are talking about. Is Yin Yoga safe for folks with osteopenia or osteoporosis? I would say, yes ... it is not only safe, it is necessary! The following is an excerpt from my book YinSights that talks to this topic. ...

Josh' flow

Sounds creative. I will have to give it a try. Just looking at the times, it would be too much for a 75 or 90 min class, as you are doing one side for about 40 mins each...but we could cut down the times of the holding. Have you taught this in a class, or just done it yourself?

cheers

Yin Yoga during pregnancy

This is a question from José de Groot. She asked, "I would like to put a question on the forum...maybe you can help me out. I was wondering if pregnant women can practice Yin yoga. Pregnant women produce a hormone from which they become more flexible, is it therefor advisable to practice Yin Yoga?" ...
