Achilles Tendon Lengthening

Post by admin »

How old is the child? How long was he immobilized after surgery (how long was he in a cast and what type of cast?) What does his physiotherapist recommend? Every surgery is unique and the surgeon is the one who really knows what was done: what is his recommendation for the recovery process?

When the cast comes off, the pain is quite real for children. Depending upon their age, they can rationalize somewhat or, if they are younger, they may refuse to put any stress on the area and refuse to walk. Compassion is called for here, but the child does need to relearn how to walk again with the new body he now has. It may help to control the inflammation by earthing. This simple process can reduce inflammation and reduce the pain being experienced, thus making walking easier.

One study has shown that the earlier the area is mobilized the better off the children are. Starting to bear weight on the injured leg as soon as is possible may be a key to quicker and longer lasting healing. This is not yoga dependent but just life dependent. Move! Standing poses, moving poses, walking - these are the best medicines, provided it is not too much too soon. Again, the surgeon is the best one to give advise.

I hope this helps.
