Counter pose to ankle stretch

Post by ann-britt@sternfeldt.se »

I am reading your book Bernie and when reading about the counterposes to ankle stretch I got a bit confused about the squatting as a counterpose. In the lines just above I am reading that any pose that straightens the legs are good. But squatting is not straighten the legs for me... or is it?

I don't have my book handy to check what you are referring to, but Ankle stretch is a strong plantarflexion of the foot: it gets straightened. Squat is a deep dorsiflexion of the foot: it gets bent a lot. So, from the foot/ankle point of view Squat make sense as a counterpose to Ankle stretch.

However, if your intention is to offer a counterpose for the knees, then yes you are correct. Ankle stretch is a deep flexion of the knees, so Squat is not a good counterpose because the knees stay flexed: Dangling or Caterpillar, which extend the knees, would be better counterposes.

So, it depends upon your intention.

Cheers!
