Compression stress can help repair muscles

Post by Bernie »

This interesting study shows how cyclical compression stresses can assist in repair of damaged muscles, without any drugs or other chemical interventions. This the basis of massage and many styles of yoga. In this case the researchers used 1 second pulses of compression for 5 minutes, twice a day for 2 weeks. While this is not the same type of stress used in Yin Yoga (we don't cycle the stress), it does show that compression is a good form of stress.

Mechanical stimulation shown to repair muscle

"The results of our new study demonstrate how direct physical and mechanical intervention can impact biological processes and can potentially be exploited to improve clinical outcomes."
