Re: A substitute for shoelace

In the Complete Guide to Yin Yoga there are several options offered for Shoelace. Have you checked those? Here are the YinSight's versions: Alternatives & Options to Shoelace: If hips are tight, sit on a bolster to tilt them forward. If the bottom knee complains, do the pose with the bottom leg stra...

Re: A question about Femoral version

Quick questions often require the longest answers! The short answer is, “yes!” For the full answer, I suggest you look at pages 110-114 and 124-151 in Your Body, Your Yoga . In general, femoral torsion can limit rotation of the neck of the femur in the hip socket due to contact (impingement or compr...

Re: plantar Fascia

As I understand the new views on plantar fasciitis, it is more properly called plantar fasciosis. The inflammation (itis) is not the cause of the problem but a result of the problem. I found this 2019 review interesting. They state towards the end, Although systematic reviews and meta-analyses have ...

Re: Trembling legs - Hamstring stretch

Hi Tove 1) What causes trembling for you? I don't know what is causing your reaction. It could be soooooo many things. You want some speculations? Muscles, when tired, sometimes spasm (tremble) or cramp. Also, if you over stretch the "stretch receptors" in a muscle, they may turn on to contract the ...

Re: Posterior pelvic tilt

It depends upon what is causing your posterior pelvic tilt. I would suggest you get assessed. Is it due to muscle weakness in the quads or back muscles? If so, Yin Yoga will not strengthen these areas. Is it due to tightness in the hamstrings or abdominal ? Many people have a posterior pelvic tilt w...

Hi Ana

Can I point you to another thread that discusses this? Read this post on Endometriosis.

Re: Floor sitting

Great intention! If a doctor asks you to take two aspirin and call her in the morning, she is not suggesting you take the whole bottle all at once! After sitting in a chair for 50 years, don't over do the sitting on the floor. Try a yin attitude and go slowly. 15 minutes at a time may be perfect. Ta...

Hyaluronic acid secretions?

II recently received the following questions: Hi Bernie. I hope you're well during these crazy times. I was trying to post on the forum but couldn't find how to do it, I apologize if this has come through to the wrong place! I did your training a few years back. I have a question that was asked to m...

Yin tissue or yang tissue?

Lingual frenulum? That stringy bit at the bottom of the tongue that anchors it to the floor of the mouth? Is it yin or yang? I have never thought about it. But, whether something is yin or yang always depends upon its context. (There is a bit more of this discussed in YinSights and more recently in ...

Re: Gaining external rotation range through yin

Yes, many students are challenged in Shoelace due to the requirement for hip adduction: their legs get in the way. Fortunately, Square pose (with neutral hips) and Butterfly (with hips abducted) still allow you to externally rotate the hips. However, you may wish to try Shoelace lying down. Without ...

Re: Gaining external rotation range through yin

You asked, "is opening of the hip externally supposed to be a long process? How long? I guess it depends on lot of things doesn't it?" The answer is — it depends! It depends upon what is stopping you. If you are feeling compression in the outside of the hips when you try to bring knees down while in...
