Re: Different types of Yin Yoga

You have no idea how helpful your reply is, Bernie!

It's cleared up a lot of confusion in my head...

And yes, I will look into SP a little further too.

THANK YOU

Re: Different types of Yin Yoga

Thanks Bernie, this is an excellent response. I completely agree with all of your points. I guess that because I have never studied with SP, I did not know if or how similar / different the SP method was to the PG method. And so, was hesitant to discuss it with this teacher, until I had a little mor...

Re: Different types of Yin Yoga

PS I have read your post on Who Owns Yin Yoga, and other similar articles about the history, Paulie Zink etc. My question is more about the current situation rather than the historical one...

Different types of Yin Yoga

Hi Bernie, I teach yin and have done for a few years. My yin teacher was taught directly by Paul Grilley. I rarely go to any other classes or teachers because I am extremely fussy! However, I recently really felt the need to do this to complement my home practice. So, I have been attending a class t...

Hi Bob, Your question is very interesting to me, as I have a long-time dedicated yin student who has recently been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. She has lost a lot of mobility very quickly. She had to stop coming to group classes, and now I work with her 1:1. This week, she has told me she d...

Thanks Bernie!

Thanks Bernie! This is all good stuff... you set my mind at rest and helped me understand in more detail. I replied to her in the way that you suggested and got this response today: "I have never been diagnosed with anything- have never pursued a diagnosis either- just something I have learned throu...

Complaint from student with hypermobiliity

Hi Bernie. This week I wrote a short newsletter to my small student group about myths in yoga - one of them was the myth about yoga causing injuries. In it, I said that I have a number of dear friends who I know would benefit from yoga but that they refuse to come to my classes on the basis that the...

Thanks Bernie, appreciate your quick reply - and you raise good questions. She comes to my classes on a weekly basis, and she says it usually happens the that evening and the next day. I don't know too much about the rest of her life but I do know that she is already a very yin person... slow, tired...

Feeling wiped out for 24 hours after a yin class?

Hi there, One of my students (who is very yin in nature anyway) asked me last week if it was normal / safe to feel "extremely wiped out" for 24 hours after the evening yin class I teach her. I said that there was nothing unsafe about it (?!) but that it's probably not advisable, esp if she has thing...

Update: We did the poses I mentioned and she LOVED it. She said she could feel her feet in a new way, she found a whole lot of energy coming from deep inside that she didn't know was there, she found a connection with her body that she had been missing without even realising it and found a great sen...

Thanks Bernie, that's really useful. I am seeing her today and we will take it easy with poses like caterpillar, butterfly and dragonfly. She's fairly new to yin, so hopefully this are safe, comfortable poses for her, to allow her to build up some confidence and trust in me and the process. Thanks a...

Yin Yoga after serious accident / multiple surgeries

Hi there, I am a newbie yin yoga teacher - and I have a friend who has recently (4 months ago) been in a serious accident, and has had multiple surgeries as a result of it. Both her feet were crushed in the accident (multiple bones broken), and one foot was "degloved" entirely, as well as broken bon...
